The Things That I Pray For…

The things that I pray for,

Are not pretty, pink or perfect.

They are not expensive or shiny.

They probably only have value to me.

The things that I pray for are not flashy, fun or fierce.

They are not wrapped in expensive metals.

They are silent opportunities to smell rose petals.

The things that I pray for are seemingly insignificant.

They are not rare to most,

But they are worth more than diamonds to me.

The things that I pray for…

Things like the absence of fear,

The presence of joy,

Moments of peace.

The things that I pray for do not shimmer.

Things like a single breath,

That is void of pain.

Brave thoughts that are not burdened with fear,

Sweet moments of peace.

The things that I pray for…are not things.

With love, Ndapewoshali A.

The Things That I Pray For II

The things that I pray for
Do not age, stale or rot.
    They are not even physical.
They are divine gifts to me.

The things that I pray for
Are not filled with dubious pretenses,
    But they are overlooked, ignored
    And despised by most.

The things that I pray for
    Cannot be bought with money.
They are fruits of the spirit,
Precious to the pure of heart.

They things that I pray for are heartfelt.
Things like a dance with my mother,
A kiss from a grandchild, a hike with my father
And a journey to the countryside.

The things that I pray for… are not things.
